The former champions had earlier gathered outside the garage of the circuit de Catalunya for a group picture with Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado first career victory and first in nearly eight years to highlight.
Team founder and director Frank Williams, who uses a wheelchair, was in the garage is filled with smoke and fire, but was quickly wheeled to safety, his daughter Claire told Reuters. Fires are fought by the staff of Williams and Force India Caterham from the pit side of the circuit before firefighters arrived. The governing International Automobile Federation (FIA) said in a statement that all but seven of the 31 members of the team on the circuit Medical Centre is released. The seven were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Williams said fire “come from the area of fuel” and three of their staff in the hospital. “The team, fire brigade and police work together to determine the cause of the fire is determined and an updated statement will be released in due time,” Williams added. Caterham, which is in a garage next door to Williams, said four of their employees are taken to the medical center for research – one in a minor hand injury and three with breathing problems. Force India deputy team principal Bob Fernley said one of his employees suffered smoke inhalation. The fire, with thick, acrid black smoke from the garage and paddock, which started 90 minutes after the end of the race. Maldonado is a picture of his 12-year-old nephew piggyback through the smoke, the younger clutching the trophy winner. Images also showed Brazilian Bruno Senna’s car in the middle of a stripped and charred garage. Maldonado to be parked elsewhere under the Parc ferme after the race rules. Team officials and visitors are taken to safety and environmental deposited. A medical helicopter was seen to take off after a while.
